I earned the Seniors Real Estate Specialist designation through the National Assocation of Realtors.

The relatively new Seniors Real Estate Specialist designation (SRES), conferred by Senior Advantage Real Estate Services, was created to show an agent's commitment to and interest in senior housing issues.

The SRES Council trains REALTORS® to meet the special needs of maturing Americans when selling, buying, relocating, or refinancing residential or investment properties. The Council tracks senior-specific lifestyle and housing issues and educates REALTORS® who are making clients age 55-plus a part of their overall business plan. By earning the SRES® designation, REALTORS® are prepared to approach mature clientele with the best options and information for them to make life-changing decisions.

Education

A two-day training program offered the unique opportunity to learn and build key skills in counseling seniors through selling their family home, buying rental property, or moving to a senior community, among many other issues.

Knowledge

In addition to guiding clients to the right experts on tax laws, probate, estate planning, and a variety of equity conversion strategies, Seniors Real Estate Specialists® can offer clients relevant information on current trends in senior real estate transactions.

The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) has an adult day-healthcare center. Click here to visit their web site. Founded in 1975, JABA is Central Virginia’s leading provider of information and services for seniors. If your family member needs assistance while you're out, you can bring them to JABA for the day and their needs will be taken care of. A very helpful and enjoyable service for local seniors and their families.

In my April 2007 issue of Hud User's newsletter "Research Works" there was an article on "Affordable Housing Plus Services for Seniors". "With the relationship between increasing age, chronic illness and disability, and growing long-term care needs well documented, new models of delivering health-related and supportive services are being sought that are attractive and affordable to low and modest income older adults. One promising but underexplored strategy, affordable housing plus services (AHPS), links older residents of subsidized multiunit housing to health and supportive services so that they can 'age in place.'"
